A friend has been looking at buying a 1990 classic 900 and asked my opinion. I thought the car itself looked great and couldn't fault it. However it is an automatic. My 900 is manual and I don't have any experience of the auto box. The owner says the engine and gearbox are fine and run well.
Is it wise to buy an auto or is it best to wait and get a manual? I know the problems with the manual gearbox are an issue but is the same true of an auto?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The car is a na (non-turbo) version.

there are no specific probs with auto box i am aware of. the main difference is fuel consumtion, as the auto is only 3 speed and the manual's 5, with the auto 3rd being similar to 4th in the manual so mpg is a bit lower, we have had a lpt vert auto for 3 1/2 yrs, and no probs, just don't forget when you get in a manual to press the clutch or you get funny looks and noises:cheesy: I have the T shirt etc;oops: as i have an lpt manual, and had forgot i was in the manual:lol:
