Hi All. i just got a new 9-3 aero. i am pretty unimpressed with the sound system that it came with (it isnt the stock its the bose one). is it a real pain in the *** to upgrade your head unit and speakers on a saab? Particulary 9-3 aeros? any input would be greatly apprecated. Thank You!:D

If you upgrade the head unit you will lose much of the functionality of the SID. Actually, since you have a 2009, you will lose the entire SID, right?

Just add a couple of tweeters to the dash and a couple of subwoofers, tapping into the speaker outputs from the amp under your seat. That's just about the best you can hope for in newer Saabs. :(

Wrong.
With 2007 onwards, you can happily remove the headunit and fit aftermarket without affecting too much in the car.
You will loose time to service data and ETA data from the sid, but that's it.
You will also loose the steering wheel controls, but I think there is now a can-bus adapter on the market to regain the volume and next/previous controls.

Quite a few of us have now gone aftermarket in 2007+ cars,

Finally...I have all the parts for the Pioneer Avic D3

Pioneer Avic F700bt installed in my 08 9-3SS
AVIC 900BT in 2007 SC with SW functions working
My 2007 Sportwagon Aftermarket Audio Install
Another Kenwood TV into a 2007 9-3 SS
ANOTHER KENWOOD MAKEOVER w/SWC
TurboX stereo. 2-Din Alpine\ Hertz

there are other threadds around too.

Good results You can reach by adding aftermarket sound processor (ex. bit one) and sum all the amp high outputs. Processor gives also possibility to put in external source (digital and analog inputs). All hisses and distortion will radically dercreased. But it cost..

Does the stock navigation system in the new Saabs play DVD video?
For 2007+ :
In stock form, no.
Don't know if the software has been broken by anyone to allow playing of DVD's on the GM generic SatNav, but even if it has, I doubt it'll work on the Saab version. There seems to be quite a bit of different programming between the Saab version and other GM versions which means that not many, if any, addons/hack work.

For 2003-2006 :
No again. Havaen't heard of any hacks for this either.

Sorry guys! but does anyone happen to know the specs for the bose system in the 2009 saabs?
Bose isn't very big on specs. But there is a brochure. I got a PDF from Bose via their web site. Mine was very specific for the 2008 9-3 SC. I just tried to upload it to the forum, and it was rejected b/c it was too large (119 KB). Contact Bose, or let me know & I'll email.
