Hi guys-
I have a 2006 Saab 9-3, 2.0T that is having AC issues. I borrowed a friend's GM Tech 2 (his dad used to own a dealership). Is this any used to me for pulling codes without the SAAB PCMCIA or CANdi module? Also, I Really don't want to damage his Tech 2 and some threads alluded to the fact that is Might caused damage to either the Tech 2 or my ECU. Thoughts?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably just buy a knock off rather than buy the Saab card and CANdi module for my friend's Tech 2. I've had Saabs since '82 and currently have 2 post-1998 Saabs plus my son's car. I don't think it will be much use on my 1968 96 though. :)

One more quick question: Is there a recommended site to buy a Tech 2 from? Banggood, Alibaba (sp?), Ebay, etc.? Thanks,

do the ebay knock offs work? can you enter VIN number onto CIM?
To code a CIM you need security access. To my knowledge you cannot achieve security access with a Tech2 without being a Saab OSC. I'd like to hear I'm wrong, however at my shop we use the Saab portal to achieve security access and code modules.

OK, I'm confused. I thought I have read where people have used Tech 2 clones to clone keys, etc. for the NG 9-3 with the cracked TIS2K and CANdi module. Is this not correct? Thanks,

On another note, I was getting error 'E2646 - Tech 2 PCMCIA card size not supported' on my clone. Not sure what that is about. Thoughts?

I got the same error when the 10MB linear flash card I bought on ebay for V.44 software turned out to be mislabeled - it was actually a 4MB card.

Oh, so I probably have a messed up card and not a real 32 MB 149.000? I guess that would make sense. I bought a Dell 630 thinking that it was my USB to Serial adapter, but it does the same thing on the Dell. :(

What are my options? Can I write to a card in one of the slots in the Tech 2? Or can I write to a card in the Dell 630 (not sure if it is the correct format/drivers)? Thanks,

Kelly

To clarify

1.You can use either the hacked Globaltis of TIS2000 to obtain security access for cars up to 2010 WITHOUT online subscription.
For later cars you require the orio online subscription approx $20 a day the last time I looked.

2. There are a number of ways to write a pcmcia card
https://www.tech2wiki.com/doku.php?id=wiki:how_to_write_a_tech2_.bin_to_the_pcmcia_card

3.The last release is v148 for the Saab (not v149?)

4.You should buy a spare card........they are cheap!

It seem likely you have a mislabeled or defective card, but of course it is possible there may be some other problem going on. Probably your best bet would be to order up another Saab V148 card and see how it works.

I bought spare cards from the same place the Tech II clone was purchased from (chinacardiags.com). They're not too expensive, I think $20US each including shipping. Since I need to work with Saab 9000 I wrote a V44 image modified to work with 32MB cards. (The stock V44 image only works on a 10MB card which is a little tougher to find.) You don't have to worry about that part, just order a V148 Saab card and it should just plug and play.

If the Tech2 wont recognise the card your best chance of recovery is to try and do a full erase with the elan card writer software and then load a relevant bin file.
In the meantime buy another one.

Sorry, the 149.000 was a typo. The card is 148.000. I can read DTC's and other things with this card/Tech 2, but when I try to go into Security in TIS2000 (hacked), it starts to read from the Tech 2 and I get the error on wrong card size. It sounds like my card has issues.

Sounds like I should buy some more 32 MB cards or another 148.000 card at least. I will also look into re-writing the card I have. Thanks,
