OK guys, heres the deal. Im going to be painting my calipers w/in the next week or so. most of you guys have pretty good taste, and I was going to leave what color i paint them, up to you.

heres the skinny

16" ten spokes
black linear.
color options; Red; Silver; Blue; Hugger orange. (for those that know hot rods!)

now, what im not telling you, is one added touch that will be completed after painting. that will be a suprise.

no matter what happens to this poll, im going to paint them, so if all you have to say is negative stuff, keep it to yourself. you dont have to vote. thats not what this poll is about.

thanks ahead of time, Gunner

I have the same ride in Midnight Blue (better than Nocturne so don't start with me you Nocturne folks :cheesy: ). I think I am going to do mine in gray but I have always preferred more of a sleeper look. I can deal with the ubiquitous red calipers too, as a touch of flash or accent color is always nice. I think blue may not be the best choice on you ride. Both red and orange pick up on colors already on the car unless you have the Euro bump strips and got rid of the orange bulbs. Silver would depend on your taste but you may see if you can find a dark gray.

My $0.02 since you are going to do it anyway.

I painted my old 9-3 when the calipers started getting rusty. Painted them silver. If I had to paint my SS calipers I would again go silver.

For me an important factor in the beauty of the SS is its discretely powerful style. No way I would jazz it up with red or yellow like an Italian or German vehicle that shouts out " LOOK AT ME"... No I love my car as she is .. cutting a low profile and breathing elegance.

I agree, a nice subtle touch, silver or black. :)

Here's my take, and I don't mean it to be negative. I'm not a big fan of brightly painted calipers, especially when it's stock calipers with stock wheels, stock ride hight... you get the drift. I see too many "boy racer" type cars arround here with racing decals, wings, painted calipers, very loud exhausts etc. Cars made to look fast, or like "race" cars that just aren't. To me it's tacky. I guess if the idea is to draw attention to yourself, it works, but thats not my thing at all. I'd rather be the fast one who doesn't stand out, I get fewer tickets that way.

That said, if it were my car I'd go black or grey. Make the binders look clean, but not stand out. Especially after seeing the picture of Bozo9k's car, No offense but I'm definatelty not a fan of the red calipers. IMO it cheapens the look of the car. And that's only my opinion mind you. It's your car, not mine.

Now of they were red stoptech's or something like that, it's a differnt story.

BTW: If you do anything, for the love of god don't paint them hugger orange. It's a european sedan, not a camaro!:cheesy:

I like silver too, because it is more subtle and doesn't take away the elegant sporty look of the SS.

BTW how much does it cost to paint the calipers and is it easy to paint it yourself?

I have to say that a shiny BLACK caliper would look awesome on a black car like yours. But ofcourse I have to vote for SILVER since my car is SteelGray:cheesy:
Sounds like a fun project. Can't wait to see the final outcome...

I painted my '98 9-3 myself. Just bought a can of heat resistant silver paint. Took the wheels off, thoroughly cleaned with gunk, water and metal brush. Then when clean and dry did a little masking and spray....
Paint dries almost immediately, stick the wheels back and "Bob's yer uncle"

I would think blue, red, or black would look nice

Someone mentioned how they thought painting stock calipers is tacky. I could see that point.

I dont know about the other owners, but dispite living in a dry climate like Arizona I have noticed small rust deposits on my 18 month old calipers.

I think painted calipers look better than rusty ones...especially on a nicer car like the 93
