its obviously not a problem when the radio is cranking but anytime I am on bumpy roads I notice several squeaks and rattles coming from the back of the interior cabin. I assume its something I can oil/lubricate if only I could find where its coming from! Any suggestions or tricks to get to the bottom of this?
thanks!

The most likely source on the hatchback is the parcel shelf. Make sure it is properly fitted into its grooves. The folding seats can sometimes creak or rattle a bit. The sunroof is a known rattle source and it can sound like it is coming from the back.

Check the spare wheel area for anything loose.

Door seals can get dry and creak, silicone spray works for them. The door strikers (on the door and on the door pillar) need lubricating with white lithium or similar non staining grease.

The door restraining straps and the door hinges can need lubricating....

You get the message I presume: there are many many possibilities you just have to track each one down and eliminate it.

adjust the tailgate catch.

ive owned mine for 3 years and have been chasing rattles left, right and centre all that time. i repaired the climate control recently and after having my dash top off, that now rattles aswell!

the dome light rattles, the b-pillars rattle (as they are both cracked), the passenger seat rattles, SOMETHING in the back that ISNT the tailgate or parcel shelf rattles! haha, you get the idea! ill have a quiet car one day, it probably just wont have a saab bage on the front of it . (i jest of course, the loner i get from the garage, a 9-5 with 208k on the clock is completly rattle free)

My boot rattled and squeaked for ages ( I cant believe how long I put up with this ). Eventually I adjusted the rubber stops either side of the tailgate - just a couple of turns . Now , no more squeaks !
you mean the round stops in the shut area for the tailgate? or the rubber stops/feet on the actual tailgate? how does it make a difference if you turn them? do they wind out?

be good to know, as depite mine having the catch adjusted down tight theres still a bit of rattling going on back there and im sure its the tailgate!

cabin squeaks... thank you!

I am happy to report back that it was the "bumpers" the hatch interfaces with... I adjusted slightly and since the rubber material seemed really dry I applied armor-all liberally. The rubber soaked everything up and squeaks are gone. thanks for the help everyone!
