2008 Sport Combi 2.8 6 cyl.-

Car has a bad ECM. (Running on 5 cyl.) My shop found another one and managed to clone it, however they were unable to 'marry' it to the car because "We dont have the hardware/software".

My problem: I would need to tow the car over 300 miles to nearest Saab specialist!

My crazy idea/stupid question:

How practical would it really be to buy the proper device & software and have a local shop do this? It sounds nuts, but I am looking at over $1000 to tow the car anyway?

2008 Sport combi ECM issue

Yes. New account. Wife has also been on here.

But we are still trying to determine what exactly we would need to buy to marry the ECM to the car.

Thanks.

-Dell D630 (D610 or D620) from ebay. make sure it has Win XP and a hard drive as some are win7 or have no harddrives. You want a working computer. my battery is bad on it so i just run an extension cord to it.
-Tech2 with Saab software on card
-the PC software to connect and get security access is in this forum and is free.
-an ECU, preferably one from same year and tranny as yours. Always makes it easier as then you can just Add it vs reprogramming it (aka changing software on it). Adding takes like 5 mins. Reprogramming takes longer and is more frustrating and can brick the ECU if it gets hung up which isn't unheard of with all this ancient technology.

Many thanks for that info! It seems like finding/aquiring that stuff will be far cheaper and less painful than trying to tow her 300 miles.

I will certainly return to find the correct software.

Thanks!
