I am wondering whether my ignition switch is damaged in my 86 900 s. Here are the symptoms:

When I turn the ignition lock to the on position, the parking brake light does not go out when I depress the handle. The windshield wipers, the heater fan, the turn signals, and the rear window defrost won't work. Sometimes if I turn the key again, they do work. If I hold the emergency flasher switch in about half way, all these things work. The same problem occurs when the car is running.

I looked up the ignition switch in my Benley and it says that all eectricity except what's on switch 30 is conducted through the ignition switch. It seems to me that the switch position that operates all the electrical items mentioned above might be burned. Does this sound right to anyone? Or could it be something else? Thanks
