thats what im thinking although the car seems to drive the same now as it did before
You are luckier than me.
My car is sitting in a garage (since Friday) waiting to get the front springs and a front tyre changed.
On way to work, low speed, just pulled across a junction and smelt a burning smell. Looked all around the cabin thinking, "I will be glad to get the last 600metres to the car park done so I can see whats going on".
BANG!!! lost control of steering.
Limped into a side road and had a look. Offside Spring snapped and ripped the front tyre apart. Spring is sill inside the tyre.
Tyre was only a couple of Months old.
I've been quoted:
£139 Spring Each
£105 Tyre
£20 Tracking
Thats over £400 (about $600)
Sure I could have got it cheaper elsewhere but I cant move the stupid car.

Don't let yourself get ripped off !
A whole set (4 each) of Eibach lowering springs is only GBP 220,-
And the Eibachs are very good quality.

I know what you are saying, and I agree I could get it cheaper elsewhere.
BUT.... the car is broken, I can't move it without paying someone to move it (The spring is still buried in the tyre so the spring would have to be removed before I could even rotate the wheels properly).
The garage already pi$$ed me off by saying they could have it done last Friday. All my preferred gagrages couldn't do it for 4-5 days.
I got the car unloaded off the AA Trailer, the AA truck drove off, then they tell me they cannot get any springs in for 3 days!!

My front right spring broke two weeks ago. 2005 convertible 6 months out of warranty. I contacted SAAB and they agreed to over costs of replacement of both front springs and the tyre that was affected by the spring rubbing.
Looks like they may know they have a problem so are willing to pay up.
I have no complaints with SAAB or local dealer over this.

nope... I had one of mine go. Granted, I drive an Arc, but I don't think there is any difference in our suspension.

well don't quote me on it because I'm not sure; but I think Linear and Arc share the same suspension and Aero has the more aggressive springs.

It sounds reasonable though. From what i've read, there aren't exactly warning signs, are there?
Happened on my 04 Linear at 74k. Blew right front tire too. Saab covered all but $100. I also filed a complaint to NHTSA and have been contacted several times through email and the phone. They are most interested in this so my suggestion would be to file a complaint if you reside in the US.

Another bust coil spring.....2005 Arc with 45,000 miles. I contacted my dealership and Saab Customer Service and will be taking it in on Monday. Hopefully Saab will cover it.......

you guys are scaring the **** out of me hahaha.
104,xxx miles on my 03 arc and haven't had this problem, but i sense im gonna go out tonight and bam its gonna happen while im doing 65 on the freeway...
I might have to move my "KONI/Vogtland suspension." to the front of the list

Good job you wasn't travelling at speed on a motor way when this happend... I think its dredfull that saab have not rectified this problem with a modification.
