You are dead on it, thats exactly what it was! And in my case basically wasted $97 because needed to get inspection quick. But I could have virtually got it for free if I had asked earlier by having buddy working in junk yard who surely would had a few that were working.
By the way would the relay in the NG900 (1994 to 1998) would have worked in the OG9-3 (1999-2002) & '03 Convertible???
And would the relay from Saab 9-3 SportSedan, Cabrio ('04+), Combi & 9-3X, 2003-2012 work in the OG9-3 (1999-2002) & '03 Convertible???
It is the same part and same part no., so yes. It fits in the 9000, (1992-1998), the NG 900 (1994 - 1998), the OG 9-3 (1999-2002 + 2003 convertible), and the OG 9-5 (1999 - 2009).

How do you remove the panel? Lever it out with a blade?
My 2000 9-3 Aero is getting close to 100k miles (160k km). Looking at the previous owner history - there is no reported transmission fluid replacement service, however the records I have don't cover the period from new to approx 60k miles. Its had regular yearly service attention and oil...
