HI friends,i've been searching the forums on this one but no luck,the problem is when i take a right turn and only right turns the brake pedal travels towards my feet and gets extremly stiff for about 10 seconds and then returns normal,occasionally the abs light will come on and stay on for the duration of my journey,i've taken it to a local garage but they casn't find any problems with hoses and i told them to clean the sensors also,any help would be appreciated..:cry:

Weird.
Does the ABS light come on when you make this turn or at some random other time?
When you say "travels towards my feet" do you mean upwards or sideways?
Do the brakes come on harder when this happens?
Have you tested the brake pressure accumulator? (ignition on, engine off, pump brake pedal 10-20 times quickly, note when abs light comes on, allow to go out and brake pump (very quiet) to stop running, then repeat. ABS light should come on only after about 8 strokes and should extinguish within about 10 seconds of your stopping.)
Did you check for mechanical problems? (look under the dash from below and see that the pedal and cross shaft are sitting properly in their bearings, that there's no side slip, that the retaining clips are sound and in place and that the shaft to master cylinder linkage is sound.)

Definantely weird.Yesterday took a sharp right turn,driving quite slow maybe 5mph,the brake pedal eased straight up towards me not sideways,and when i tried to press on it it was very stiff,then it just went back to normal,as soon as that happened the abs light came on and stayed on for the rest of my journey.:nono;

Next thing to do is pull the ABS codes. There's a description on how to do that somewhere on SwedishWrench or something.

Be aware that, while the ABS light is on, not only do you not have ABS function, you may not have rear brake function either.

I'd suspect a checkvalve has gone wrong somewhere in the valve body or master cylinder. If you have a Bentley manual ("Saab 900 16 Valve Service Manual" on http://www.saabcentral.com/bookshop.htm , work through the troubleshooting procedures there.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you DON'T DRIVE THE CAR!! in this condition. You don't know what's wrong and you don't know that it's not going to get worse and, when it does, or the brakes fail entirely, you'll be approaching a school at home time or something like that... :eek:

that's weired! i had the same problem but exactly the opposite:eek: i could go round a right hand corner and i my brake pedal would travel to the floor(well not uite) but after ten secs i would get pedal feel back.........?

never did find the problem. thought it might be the brake pressure accumulator or something linked with it. maybe a valve that's susceptable to lateral G's?

Good luck
