I know I have posted about this before, but I didnt get very far as I dont think I made my question very clear..... doh? (searches on the forum only led to old, or my now closed thread

I regularly take my bike out, and am tired of either stripping it down to get on the rear seats, or dropping the seats and sliding the bike in the boot. Basically I need a bike rack, but I CANNOT get out of my street with a roof mounted one, as there are VERY low trees, and my regular route takes in a low bridge

Does anyone know of, or have used, a boot mounted rack on a C900 (esp if fitted with Carlsson/Airflow spoiler)??????

All my other ?'s have been answered fantastically by the Fountain of Knowledge that is SaabCentral, so c'mon guys, keep up the challenge :cheesy:

Cheers

My old bike rack attached to the top of the hatch opening and also at its base, had two feet which rested on the bumper and then the other feet tensioned against the hatch itself. This worked fine on my 99 Combi Coupe but cannot be used on my 2dr so I now have a set of Thule roof bars and bike carrier. I don't know if the arms of my old unit would be long enough to clear a whaletail though.

This style of rack is great because it doesn't matter what kind of car you have as long as it has a trailer hitch mount. If you don't have one, they are usually pretty easy to install.

I know the owner of this bike shop and he has one on the back of his BMW 7-series simply because it's a 'no touch' system -- nothing to touch the paint, etc. Plus it's really easy to get the bikes on and off. Check out the animation by clicking the magnifying glass icons -- it shows how it works.

Hope that this helps.

Have had a really cheap 'n nasty Trunk attached Bike Rack for years now. Just took 2 big heavy Freestyle Bikes up the North Shore mountains (repeatedly) for some serious downhill ..on Sunday.. Works "fine" even holds tight (suprisingly) onna Freeway.
Sure you can spend Lots more.. but Why ??

After a year of searching, another boot mount update. Saris is the make, "Bones" the model. Well engineered, clears 900 rear spoiler, very adjustable. 4 legs can be set to rest on window and bumper, or like I did and rest on window and vertical section on either side just past license plate. Comes in 2 or 3 bike configuration. Coated straps tighten to upper, side, and bottom of hatch. I'm very particular about my paint and this seems to be a good solution. Remember to tie off straps so they don't flap. $149 US.

I concur on the Saris "bones" rack. The neat thing is that it will pretty much fit ANY car, and it is alot cooler looking than the cheapo aluminum-frame trunk/hatch mount racks. I have the 3-bike rack, and I do have to say that it is a little tricky to get three on there. But, it is do-able with a little fiddling!

well hello to an ancient thread. this would be for my '04 9-3.

anyone know how to avoid the fine clearcoat scratching the comes with mounting a saris bones or similar trunk rack? I'm referring to how the feet of the rack resting on the trunk make very small scratch spots, nothing deep, just on the surface. i've thought of maybe using some type of clear plastic film on the contact points for the feet on the trunklid. anyone come across this and what did you do?

Not sure on a trunk mounted rack, but I would personally avoid that all together. In my previous experience, I have seen the weight of the bikes bend the sheet metal on the body. Go for a trailer hitch and a bike rack that fits into that. Maybe I'm just OCD about the body of my car though...
