hey guys, i know im not meant to rev the engine cold but i did it just to see what kind of smoke would come out of the exhaust.

I did a cold start with my 06 saab 9-3 2.0t and revved it a few times and i noticed a cloud of black smoke. is that normal?

when the car is warmed up, no smoke comes out of the exhaust.

defintely not normal....black smoke is oil leaking somewhere its not supposed to as far as I know. Some seal somehwere that when warm seals better then stops the leaking

The black smoke is from the condensation picking up the carbon buildup in your exhaust pipe and sending it out the exhaust. This is normal. The reason it doesn't happen when the car is warm is because the condensation is gone. Now if you redline on a rev, you will see the black smoke but again, that is carbon buildup exiting your exhaust.
