I am running my 18x8" rims with some 215/35/18 "rubber band" tires and theyre about worn out (tired of em too) I know one option is to get some 225/35 tires which will give the larger tread that i want, but the kumhos i want arent availible in that size. Ive heard i can cut some of the fenders away to fit the 225/40/18s in there, but exactly where and how much???

u need to roll your fenders to fit wide tires... search on a VW forum and Write rolling fenders, or fender roller...

Ref: bigger tyres

hi , i fitted michelin sports 225/40/18 to my 18 BBS rx wheels .

they rubbed , all i did was put some weight in the boot for 2 days and hey presto , ive got two little rub marks on the inside of the rear arches where the new tyres have melted their shape into the arches .

now they dont rub anymore ( unless i go over a really big bump with people in the back )

i do have the koni set up though .
