Does anyone have any experience with the following intake kits, or have any suggestions on others to consider?

PFS carries the BSR Opti-flow Induction Kit with a JR filter. I can't tell if it installs in the engine bay or outside of it like the stock intake.

carries a Speedparts kit with a JR filter.

Taliaferro carries a K&N open air intake, same deal as above as I can't tell where the filter ends up.

Abbott carries a much more expensive kit that consists of a custom made intake horn and an ITG filter

I like the Abbott one the most but the price seems a little extreme, especially considering the exhange rate and shipping to the US.

Would I be better off building my own like here? I just don't have any spare parts lying around and I don't know where I could get a filter like that.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

Build your own its cheaper and just as effective if not more as its in the cool air space and as nobody ever sees the intake whats the point of spending money on some nice looking carbon fibre when its not on show...

hey i just did the ITG thing myself like in the pics. It's nice and easy, i bought an ITG foam filter off ebay, exactly the same as the one in the pic. got 2 for 12 quid including postage, that was such a bargain! They were used ones but in good nick. Well happy with it, you can hear the difference and feels cool too. so dont go spending huge amounts of money, just get one and get messing about with your tools, its not tricky honestly!

Yeah, I contacted them and they said it would be cheaper to order straight from Abbott to save on shipping.
Anyway I think I will just build my own, but I can't find a similar filter for less than $75. There are none listed on eBay and I haven't found a company that sells them at any sort of discount. Any suggestions?

I agree that the Abbott model is big bucks. About a year ago I got a JT open-air filter kit (recommended by Maptun) from Taliaferro Saab in Missouri. They are at:

If you call them, speak with Nick Taliaferro - he's very helpful, and they may also carry K&N filters, which are also very good and not too expensive.

I seem to recall that the price for the JT kit was in the range U.S. $75-$85.

I was actually looking for one of those ITG Maxogen foam filters like Marrk and swiftpete installed. I can only find them new from ITG dealers for at least $75. Maybe they are more common in the UK, but there are none on eBay here.
