Found out Saturday that my entire manual transmission needs to be replaced at 85K. Will cost $1800. Had the car since 75K-mechanic at local SAAB dealer stated that this was a bit early for this to happen, and speculated that the previous owner drove the car hard and very bad.

How long can I estimate that this new clutch/transmission will last? I just need it to go to about 150K or so.

The early ng900's had very problematic transmissions, but they had most of that worked out by the time they made yours. Many 94 and 95 owners belong to the second transmission club.

I would say that if you started with a new clutch and don't beat on it much (or drive in downtown traffic every single day), then you're probably good for your 150 K goal. Heck, the crappy trans on my '94 made it until 135 K before it had to be replaced.
