'03 wagon died on me while I was driving. Got it towed.

Brought it home, and the fuel pump is definitely making some weird grindy/inconsistent noises, and not priming smoothly (compared to my '04 9-5). While turning over, the car just cranks and no feeling from the pump. Then, itll sputter, and I hear/feel a weird noise from the pump (hand on it via the access hole in the back), as if its struggling, then back to nothing and just crank

No previous clues that the pump was bad. Used to start just fine. Just died and that's it. That's why I'm posting this, otherwise I'd just replace it.

No codes, tach moves

Edit: according to the service records, the pump has never been replaced. 160k on the clock. The car also sat for about a year prior to this. Seems like the pump is definitely gonezo!

It sounds like a bad pump and the mileage good for an original pump. Be sure to buy a Walbro pump and watch out for cheap knockoffs.
