hello all,

few days ago i was driving in rain, and my audio system was working..
i stopped the car, and when i tried to open it, few hours later, it was not opening...
totally dead...
i checked the fuses and everything is ok...

i went to the service, and they told me its dead :(
they told me to leave the car to take a closer look, but i needed the car, so i didnt...

1st question: is there any way to check it by myself that its dead ?
2nd: what exactly should i change ?
3rd: it should be cheaper to replace it with a common one ?

any help will be appreciated...

Sounds like you need a new battery. Not sure what is available where you live, but Saab's use a battery with reverse posts. + and - are on opposite sides of a standard battery.

What sound system do you have in your car, AS1, 2 or 3?

Can only give personal experience of AS1 but there's a red fuse on the rear of the cd player if you remove it from the dash.

Not sure if AS2 and 3 have the same fuse......anybody?

I can vouch for the AS3. Fuse located in the back of the head unit! How do I know? My 3yr old son at the time thought the opening for the cassette player was a coin slot! Enough said. :x :nono;

hello to all again, and thank you all for the responses..

i dunno if its an AS1, 2 or 3... it has a CD+Cassete+Radio...

the engineer at the service, said that he replaced it with one from a crashed Saab and the replacement worked.. for a while, because it was locked..

he could sell me the unit from the crashed one, but he said that he hasnt the chassis-number of the crashed car, to get the code from mother Saab...
probably he bought this for spare parts..

so, my next question is...
is there any way to unlock a unit like this ?

another scenario is to find a frame and use a common radio/cd/mp3, etc...
this could be fine because i could make a carputer for my car :)
