I'll be picking up a 99 9-5 wagon next weekend. It threw a rod so I obviously plan on fixing it. I"ll check to see if the block is salvageable first, but if not, I'll need another one. I've searched ebay and the 98 and older 2.3l motors are averaging about $150. The 99+ 2.3l motors are averaging $1200. Are there any differances in the blocks themselves?? I could care less if there is any difference in the top end.

Thanks for all the input.

I believe '95 and up 9000 2.3 blocks can be used. You use your head, pan, timing cover, and a few other components but it will work. I have seen a few threads where it's been done. You wind up with a stouter motor in the end.

Search for threads containing B234 (the block from the 9000's) and you'll find the one on what you need to do the hybrid B234/B235 engine.
