Hi people... If I'm not in the correct section I would not be surprised and would appreciate a nod in the right direction.

My initial problem in the Airbag Warning Light being on... The car has been off the road for three years now as I couldn't afford to get it MOT'ed at the time and this was the main culprit.

I am looking to reinstate the car now and need to know if I can avoid a massive mechanic's bill.

I had some work done in Tonbridge by the excellent team at Motorvation and the guy there told me that the Airbag light was on because of the seatbelt, and that to get the part they'd need to order it as it as "explosive", as it the charge had been set off in the car.

So what I need to know is a. Is it possible to swap out one seatbelt fixture for another and/or b. does the part need to be re-programmed (i.e. on the Tech 2 etc).

My Plan A is to buy a similar car for about £300 strip out the parts and then scrap the donor car... can anyone advise against that or is there an 'easy fix' that I am missing at this point.

Any and all help would be warmly welcomed.

Thanks

Gary

H Mimmi, your answer is akin to "How do you change a lightbulb?" "Buy a house".

I am on a Forum surrounded by the greatest collective of Saab owners who may have been in a similar situation.

My question is "Do I need to reprogram with Tech 2 when replacing seatbelts..."

Not "shall I buy a Tech 2 to see if I need to reprogram seatbelts".

The number of times I've seen on forums things like: "My Saab won't start in the cold" to have some random person answer "I don't have a Saab and I live in Jeddah"

The moral of the story is: If you have nothing constructive to say....

I am not mind reader, so I just answer your question.
Your question was: "I am looking to reinstate the car now and need to know if I can avoid a massive mechanic's bill. "
If you want answers for seatbelts, ask for seatbelts.

Mimmi, you are quoting the 'intro'... this was the question:

"So what I need to know is a. Is it possible to swap out one seatbelt fixture for another and/or b. does the part need to be re-programmed (i.e. on the Tech 2 etc)."

I do appreciate you answering however.

Yes. No need of TECH2.
Unhook battery before swap.
You need TECH2 to reset airbag warning light (if present).

Thanks for that Mimmi.

Does anyone know if the make/model/year is important.

My car is a 2004 but can I swap it with a 2006 or 2008 and would it matter if it is an Estate or a Petrol/Diesel variant?

One step closer every response.
