Hey all,

I have a question regarding the airbag light. My wife has had the airbag light on and when I took it to the saab dealership they told me the wiring harness needs to be replaced at a cost of $1100. I took the center console apart to see the harness and everything looks good. They said one of the wires was not making contact. I reseated all the connections and an giving it a half hour or so to sit without the batter connected as I also unplugged and reseated the connector to the airbag module. My question is, could it be the airbag module rather than the harness itself? The harness alone costs $400 if I were to do the labor myself.

Well the problem itself may accually be fixed from what you did but with most cars you cannot just unplug the battery nor module to reset the unit because if the way its stored to memory and usually a capacitor or battery. there is usually a airbag service plug that has to be used to reset it. not sure where it is on the 9-5 but ill try to find out for you.

Sometime back I replaced my interior and made a simple mistake of switching the ignition on
whilst the air bag connectors under each seat were disconnected.
This gave a warning light when the system failed to find the corresponding air bags.

I cleared the warning light by disconnecting the battery.
Not very helpful for you I guess but there are a number of air bags in our 9-5's
any one of which could be causing your problem or any of the connectors.
I personally would trace back to every loom connector and clean the corresponding connection plugs.
It may also be worthwhile getting the code pulled if the Tech2 can pinpoint which offending air bag is the problem.
Afraid I dont know if the diagnostic can be this good.

Replacing the whole wiring loom seems a bit drastic to me!

I got the code pulled at the dealer, it's the drivers side airbag.

That could just be the clockspring in the steering wheel (assuming that is the air bag giving the problem of course).
If it is in the seat, it could be that air bag that needs to be replaced.

I would recommend that you find yourself a trusted Saab specialist and get him to track it down for you ... a second opinion is never a bad thing.

my ol' ladies car just had the exact same thing happen today. She had both the triangle light and the airbag lights. i'm kind of wondering what the heck is going on. going to the dealer tomorrow. will let you guys know what i find.

another airbag light question - if i leave the front passenger door open for one minute, the airbag light goes on with the chime. does this indicate a legitimate airbag problem, or is this just a fluke? i was wondering if it had anything to do with the side airbags. when i close the door, about a minute later the light goes away.
