I was just doing some routine stuff like cleaning out the new car, changing the oil, and i went to buy a new air filter cause the one in there needed to be replaced. But the fram book they had there did not list saab air filters it did list oil filters just not air. The one in the has SAAB on it, but it looks like a fram. So do you just have to buy from a saab dealership or does anyone know a number for one sold in a normal auto parts store. Thanks a lot.

They are a special order part at most stores, but I believe they are fram.

I tried to take mine out and wash it in a dishwasher on a saturday as some have had success, but mine got destroyed(was saab OEM that I took out). I called Advance Auto and they did not have it in stock, but said it was something they could get next day. So I had it on Sunday morning. I will definitely order a new saab oem one next time, but the one from Advance Auto works fine too, and appeared to be exactly like the OEM one.

And what a price difference ! And I am still used to paying 3 to 5 dollars for a filter.

I know that the $$pricey$$ cabin filter can be washed-again quite a savings !
The engine air filter, good for 25 to 50K miles, can be blown out to an extent - I wonder if it is worth it or not...

I would be scared to wash it - the resultant wetness may cause the paper's"open-ness" to close, then we would have a restriction which may trip the CEL warning.....

doh, I was thinking of the cabin filter for some reason, I tried to wash the cabin filter, but got the replacement engine filter from eeuroparts. I am sure it is a similar 1 day order from any of the parts stores for that too.

It sure is a PITA to replace the engine air filter on these cars. Most cars are just a couple of clips.

I found one had to go to a bunch of stores most don't carry them and would have to order. But for future reference for anyone the fram filter number is ca8099 and it seems that other brands have different letters in front but end in 8099. Thanks for the help.

and yes it is a PITA to install these filters. I think the engineers at Saab came to work under the influence on something when they designed clips under the intake tube and next to the fender with about half an inch of clearance, i had to have my little sister with little hand help me with that one.

Seven, or maybe just 4 clips to access the ng900 air filter. Do this every 25 to 50K miles...No tools necessary....
A man would think the new 9-3 is a bit easier as the car is wider...
But, I must admit, I do not know about the og 9-3.....
Ever try to change the air filter on a '93 Passat V6 ?? Or a VW micro-bus ??
One wing nut for an OLD Cadillac or Saab filter..

I recently bought a Fram CA8099 air filter for my 2000 9-3 Turbo, which was the part listed for my vehicle. When I took the old one out and compared it to the new one, the old filter was a couple inches longer. Does anyone know why they may be different sizes?

This, a man can rely on - The manufacturers will make minute changes, the aftermarket firms may or may not be informed.
Also, the air box is different between the turbo and na(naturally aspirated) models.(generally, the filter is the same)
Check our sponsors for the correct part.:cheesy:
