Use a butter knife to pop out both sides. It is not held very tight. There are two harnesses connected in the back.
You will need to be very careful disassembling the control unit. The plastic clips are delicate. There may be a bunch of light guides inside that will want to fall out. If you get it open, snap some digital photos to remind you where any loose parts go.
It's probably all green LED lighting inside except the lights behind the red/blue toggles (probably white LED's). You may need to play with LED/resistor combos to get the right value for a replacement. Hopefully these are common value LED's.
