The ACC fan in my 2006 9-3 2.0t started making a very annoying whirring/chirping sound today(video link below). From time to time I would hear a little whistle but not anywhere this extreme. This evening I was out with the car again and it didn't make the noise. So it seems to be sporadic at the moment. Anyone else ever experience this and, if so, what was the fix?

The fan is rusting as they all do. Drip some turbine oil in there to lube it up.

Like Diggs said, get some lubricant on the motor shaft. It will only get worse, and no heat in the Winter is a real drag. On top of trying to contort your body on the ground and sill of the car when it's freezing outside. Also make sure your cabin filter is clean, as it puts more stress on the fan motor when the filter is clogged up.

Trust me AVguy, I did search the forums first. The problem is that you don't always know exactly what to search for... I appreciate the links.

SAABalingus - Actually in my part of the country, I'd prefer to do this type of job in the winter.

Squirt some of this up around the top of the motor shaft. Let gravity take over.

Do you take the filter out and do this?

yes you do need to remove the filter to gain access to the motor, its visible once its removed.
