AC leak

I have tried to recharge the AC on my 2007 9-5, but it won't go above 30%. I used an AC dye detection kit and found a potential leak. It is the connector behind the passenger-side headlight (see photo). What size gasket do I need to have to replace it?

Are there any other connections that I should replace while I fix this one?

I can't help you on the gasket size but it's a really bad idea to use the DYI refill cans on the Saab AC system, they need to be professionally evacuated and refilled by weight and balanced.

Unfortunately the DIY cans will do way more damage than good and cost you a lot more money, I use the cans on my Ford fleet trucks with great success, I tried it on one of my 9-5's long ago and it cost me a compressor.

Review this diagram - I can’t tell which connection it is from your photo. AC Condenser (2002-2009) (9-5 Parts > Heating & Air Conditioning > AC Condenser > AC Condenser (2002-2009)).

By law you can’t simply release the refrigerant into the atmosphere. A shop can evacuate it. Also, keep in mind once the connection is opened moisture from the air enters the system - even if it’s only for a few minutes. Moisture mixed with R134a creates an acid that kills AC components which then gets really expensive to fix. At a minimum, replace the receiver-drier so buy an o-ring kit for your year/model (available on Amazon, eSaabparts, eEuroparts, etc.). Also, once the system is repaired you have to pull a deep vacuum (Google how to do it, you can “rent” a vacuum pump from AutoZone, Advance, etc.). A vacuum will boil off any moisture and contaminants as well as allow you to check if the system is now leak-free.

Finally, as said above don’t use the quick-fill kits you see advertised. Get a gauge set (also available for rent) and do it correctly. Again, Google is your friend.

Thanks for asking. AC fix was quoted $1,500 to fix all the gaskets, as they were all leaking. He was reluctant to do that as "where else will it leak." He said, "Use the recharge cans," but I won't do that. Glad I live in central PA, where it doesn't get too hot. Widows down :)

I will look to get a second opinion or possibly invest in a gauge set to refill it properly.
Sounds like ******** to me. My local mechanic has an air conditioning specialist guy who comes in and recharges and seals mine and it typically holds up for three or four years or more at a pop. All for about $200.

Yeah that guy simply didn't want to do the job. You could do it without it being too much hassle with help from us and the Wis

My Saab shop did a job on one of my work vans (2007 Furd E-250 or is it Ferd?) a couple of years ago and it has the coldest AC of any vehicle in the shop, I asked what they did and was told "we ran a can of special varnish through the system" I have to find out what the stuff they used was.

It definitely wasn't cheap but sure was effective.
