For a little while my AC has been a little noisy when engaged (ON), but yesterday it started rattling when off and the belt started smoking. As a result I've put a short belt mod on for the time being. The AC always blew cool air, so myself and mechanic feel it's the clutch.

I've got a couple of options. The car has 250,000kms (155,000miles) so I can either:

a) replace the clutch on the compressor with this kit http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Saab-9-3-9-3...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33788cfbb9 Has anyone tried this, is it easy?

b) get a new compressor for $255, which will require money to be recharged

What are peoples thoughts?

The A/C bearing on the car is kind of a PITA at times, but it's doable and it saves you the vac & recharge and drier installation.

I swapped out the bearing not a difficult job. You could just buy the bearing and have a machine shop press the new one in.
