i've got a lovely 99, though sadly can't even tell you what model it is. Its licensed as a 1978 EMS though quite sure it isn't (the carb gave that one away). Its got no bumpers (though tastefully done - looks really good - i'll add pictures later).
Any how, it has a starter problem: You turn the key to start and indeed the engine turns over as it should but there is a loud clearly audiable clicking (it sounds to me like a loud spark but more likely the solonoid switching), i'm on my own up here so no helpfuls to tell me exactly where its comming from. It doesn't turn over at full speed and this means that it doesn't start readily and has been wearing the battery down, which keeps running flat though I am not using it very much at the moment (thats because the fuel pump is leaking).
About a year ago the starter packed up and I got it replace by Jamsaab and a hefty price because, I think, the solenoid had literally come away from the starter.
I think the charge circuit and battery is good because after 10 minutes of idling after a completely dead battery it will turn over again(though probably not start).

So guys, any ideas?

I had a similar problem on my 73 (B-series 2.0 engine with starter under the manifold).

I replaced the starter motor but I got the same problem again a few months later. It was intermittent on mine and tended to happen more after the car had been driven, stopped and attempted to start again. I never really got to the bottom of it but my own feeling is that it was something to do with the heat shield between the manifold and the starter motor having seen better days.

btw, I remember seeing your car on eBay or on the SOC website I think.

yeah, that'll be it, it was advertised on both! its going to be time for it to go soon though, I fancy something a little smaller and more efficient, or failing that, at least something with more power for the same efficiency (a turbo or something :D ). Just need to get the small things sorted to be able to sell it for more than parts!
I'll look into the heat sheild, see if there are any melted wires or anything.

Cheers,
