First time here. My convertible top isn't going down anymore. Had a few problems leading up to this, I'd hold the switch, it would whine and go a little, tell me to check it, I'd flip again, after a moment or so it would go.

Does the convertible top have a motor that may have gone bad?

Any advice before I take it in would be appreciated.

Thanks!
(The good news is, it's TOO HOT to drive with the top down. ;-)

I just had this problem, it's probably the microswitch on the driver side, have someone flip the switch and watch the microswith and make sure it's triggering right. If I have some time, i'll snap some pics for you.

More details on the convertible not converting

After some further analysis, the following has been detemined. (Please bear with me on this complete explanation, it helps me to write it all out.)

From what I understand, the way it's supposed to work is this:
1. Unlatch the top;
2. Push the switch on the console btn. the driver and passenger seats;
3. The rear window panel folds 'in' to the car;
4. The storage panel on the trunk opens;
5. The top lifts up into the air and folds in to the storage space;
6. The storage panel on the trunk closes;
7. Away I go!

Now, I get through step 1 just fine.

It's when I push the switch on the console that nothing happens. It sounds like a whiring sound is coming from the rear of the car and then I get a "soft top failure" message on the console read out.

So, given that explanation...any ideas?

(BTW - I called the dealer and it will cost $60 for analysis, and he said a few weeks ago he repllaced the motor on a 94' Saab and it cost around $800.)

Thanks in advance!
