Hi guys
I'm a new owner of my 1st Saab - a 1998 900S vert. A few bits and pieces to fix up - the obligatory tonneau motor replacement and the cabin blower speed controller. An odd thing is the lack of display of the radio stations or cd track info on the SID. Plenty of the usual warnings that I'm working through (check latches etc etc), but no station info. Radio and CD work fine.
What could this be? Obviously something that is common to both the radio and the cd (cd changer in the boot - and no external amp version). I've checked the connections to the rear of the radio unit visually, could it be a signal loss here? It's the early Clarion complete with cassette player.
Any suggestions?

The radio communicates with the SID through two pins in the grey plug. They're gold-colored and the rest are silver, so they're easy to spot. You might check to see if the pins and wires look okay, or if something's frayed.

About the only thing that you can do is find someone with a SID and swap them for a minute or two ro see if the radio displays. Just be aware that a non-vert SID will not show vert-related messages, unless it's updated with a Tech-2... Ron

Thanks for your input. Strangest thing, during this problem the fan speed controller was disconnected while I was replacing the mosfet in it. As soon as it was reconnected and the ACC was all working again, surprise surprise, the cd track info and radio stations are displayed again! Coincidence? Connected somehow? Don't know, but it all works again. Saabs are strange...
