Hello Saab people, i'm new to Saab central and in need of some help. My 91 900s automatic was stolen the day I registered it just a few days ago, and found intact by the police. it doesn't lock and the automatic shifter was broken off in which i'm assuming was to bypass the electric shift lock. the plastic plate with gear numbers was taken off as well. none of the ignition wires were ripped out and I can still insert and turn key on and move the "Knub" that's left of the shifter through all gears. all power to dash and accessories work but no crank when trying to start. there is a green wire exposed that was connected to what i believe to be the Neutral safety switch and/or bulb that lights up shifter. I need input as to whether i should assume neutral safety switch is damaged or if ignition switch (tumbler) is most likely damaged? I would really appreciate input on bypassing the NSS if need be to get her started and avoid more towing fees! (cost me 200$ to have my car stolen and towed a mile !) Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!

p.s Im curious how they got the car started after breaking off gear selector ? being she wont start when turning key in ignition ( has all dash power etc)

I presume the USA
is same as UK. The car can be started in lock or neutral, so they might have got it running, but then broke it off just to be ars88oles, there is a plastic pate with wires on which might be damaged, but the start item may be due to the pressure switches, on the alum casting of gear selector etc

Thanks for the response 16saabs! Although I'm trying to make full sense of all of this. So the shifter is broken off and there's a spring hanging out which I'm assuming has to do with the button that allows gear selector to move. There's 2 wires one black and the other green -broken off what I believe to be neutral safety switch and a little black plastic bulb holder (do those wires only pertain to the shifter light bulb?) do you think the neutral safety switch is damaged and how to bypass if so ? There's no other wires ripped out the key cylinder doesn't appear to be damaged (although I did hear a spring noise when I turned key as if maybe spring popped off tumbler assembly ? I'm also very curious how they got it started if you have any ideas? The key cylinder doesn't free turn easily or feel broken and the key still goes in and turns all accessories on . Thoughts ?

if you joined the two wires together that would complete the circuit so should start, that's the idea of the 'button' you wont hear a spring of the tubler/lock they are to fine. will get photo's sent as only just seen em etc
