well first off im a long time lurker and saab owner. i've posted here before but can't remember my password. i've had quite a few saabs and i guess seeing them at my house someone thought that i was the local indy and offered their 91 9000 for me to repair:D the car was worked on at a garage before coming here. the diagnosis was the motor was blown and was stripped down. after i reassembled everything and checked compression i decided to try to start it. after 2 years of sitting it fired to life but had the infamous death rattle;oops: when i pulled the timing cover the lower balance shaft sprocket was destroyed:eek:

my advice to anyone with the soft metal gear is to go ahead and replace it.

How could you have missed it if you stripped the engine?
