My 1991 900lpt has taken to cutting out, particularly coming down from high revs, say slowing up to a junction or similar!

She is also juddering...i.e. as if someone is 'pinching' a pipe somewhere, and cutting power off momentarily, causing a juddering effect, which is annoying!

Any 'non over tekkie' ideas would be welcomed!

Thanks as always....

yes it will increase as it's extra fuel?, but when running it's sucking air so dies/struggles, also check the apc that's on the top part of engine, as that can get gummed up spray with carb cleaner etc and watch the muck come out

Spray carb cleaner over the vacuum connections/intake hoses. If the idle surges, then you have a leak there. The vacuum hoses get old and brittle and need to be replaced with silicone hoses for better heat resistance.

There is a vacuum diagram on the top of the drivers side wheel well (LHD driver). Check that and follow those hoses around and you'll likely come across something that has been disconnected.

Also, the stalling when coming to a stop can be a few things other than a vacuum leak.

See here and here

Does the juddering occur at the same time as the cutting out? - ie on the overrun, not under power.
As above, its likely to be caused by a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum hoses and connections first, other possibility could be the turbo bypass valve leaking.
