I have had reocurring problems with light bulbs blowing on my 2001 9-5 wagon.Since buying it, I was immediately buying bulbs, either headlights or tail lights. This has continued for about 2 years. Dealers have suggested I replace these bulbs in pairs, same problem re-occurs. Right now I have the messege to replace my rear right tail light, again!. I have heard other Saab owners say they have had similar problems. Is there some Saab defect that I am not aware of? I am taking the car to the dealer this week to try and diagnose the problem. It is however no longer under warranty. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any info is appreciated.

Hi Huero, welcome to Saab Central.

Changing the bulbs in pairs is a must, its all about resistance in the circuit  Not sure why they would be blowing prematurely. I am aware that some headlight brands are prone to blowing quickly. Good luck, let us know what your dealer says..

MINE DOES the exact same thing!
And they give me this BS excuse that SAABs run hotter so the BULBS burn out faster?!?!?!?

It's been going on for about 2 years.... I did; however, discover a leak near the Key hole that was letting water into the lense assembly. After that was replaced the problem went away for about a month. but it came back again....But wait here's the weird part.
Sometimes when it says brake light failure the lights won't actually be blown?!?!
I was considering LEDS but NO ONE makes them.

Thats because the SAAB system is based on the current drawn, it can sense when a bulb is about to die on the voltage changes. Very cool when it all works, but a pita when it plays up. Clean the earthing point of your battery and any other earthing points you can find on light units, this may cure the premature blowing of bulbs.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions. I'm taking the wagon to the dealer tomorrow morning. Let's see what they find or wether they tell me to change the bulbs again. The answer "it's a Saab thing" is kind of a copout. If the problem is as common as it sounds then maybe Saab should have had a recall. Seems to me any kind of electrical defect may be a safety hazard.
