I just went to the dealer and confirmed that their 2005 9-3ss sedans do NOT have the motion detector built-in to the car alarm, like my 04 Aero with a build date of July 03.

In my car, with the windows down, reaching into the car will trigger the alarm if the car is locked. I tried this in the 05s, didn't work. Someone earlier confirmed this option was delected from the sedans sometime in the 04 build year. Just FYI.

Well, I guess to make more money. 04 to 05 Aeros in the USA deleted:

OnStar (approx 900 retail)
6-Speed (approx 1000 to 1500 retail)
Motion Detector in alarm
Rear seat armrest tray/box
Pass side lumbar support

Put back pass side floor mat pegs (+$5?)

I guess a total delete of around $2000 retail to USA customers. Pricing went down about $300 from what I can see. Nav was offered, of course.

All 04 and 05 folks can easily add back the locking gas cap feature on the 03s. I did, and cost around $30. I also added back the rear console ashtray, which really improves the looks and is easy to do.

I'll never understand why automakers find it necessary to offer LESS car for a following model year. By the time the car has been in production for a year, one would figure things like the motion sensor for the alarm would be relativly simple and cheap for their supplier to manufacture (not to mention, I'm sure their supplier sells to more than just SAAB).

Un-Freaking-Beleivable.

FWIW, those with the motion sensor alarm, if you leave your dog in the car while you run into the store to grab something quick, you can turn your car off, remove the key, and hit "CUSTOMIZE" .. the alarm menu will appear right at the spot where you can disable the interior alarm. Amazing and convenient.

I could have used that about a week ago. I was the DD for the night and one of my friends wanted to go pass out in the car. I put him in and locked the car... However, he kept setting the alarm of whenever he moved and I could hear it all the way inside! I ended up just leaving drivers door unlocked.

Are you saying the '03 has this feature? Can anyone tell me how it works? Do you leave the windows down and lock the car and if someone reaches in the alarm goes off?
Sit in the back seat of your car, press the lock icon on your key fob, then move about the cabin.

Your neighbors will be instantly annoyed at the honking of your horn. It's just that simple!

My 2003 Saab

I'm laughing at how fabergasted you 05 owners are by this. It's good to have all these features in mine that u guys do not have. For all the trouble this car is, it has everything I could ever want in a car sans a good sound system.
