OK, here is an update on replacing this coolant pipe. The job was completed, about 7 hrs is total. Tho once i was into the job, i made a game-time decision to replace a couple more items.
These included the oil (engine to turbo) pipe, this one runs parallel to the coolant pipe. I also replaced the thermostat, as i needed to remove the lower radiator pipe adaptor (connects lower hose to thermostat housing) for the removal of the pipes.
I was a great decision to replace the starter, as it had a good amount of wear between the housing and the "gear shaft".
Quick summary of what i removed/disconnected.
Removed Front Engine mount
Removed SAI pump and SAI plastic pipes (one to intake manifold and one to the SAI valve)
Removed starter
Air Cleaner housing, intake pipes (from air cleaner to Turbo) with the MAF
Removed turbo intake pipe (from intercooler to throttle body)
Removed the oil dip stick mounting bolt.
Removed battery, battery box and disconnected the hose from the output of turbo
Drain the coolant
Disconnected the lower radiator hose adapter from the thermostat housing
Now that you a have clear picture of the coolant pipe, you will see a 10mm bolt that secures both pipes (oil and coolant) to the block (next to the battery grounding cable, located by cylinder 5). It is next to the bolt you needed to remove to disconnect the radiator hose adapter to thermostat.
Removed both banjo bolts (block and turbo) from the coolant pipe
Now the trick, once you have the pipe loose, i found the only way to get it out was to maneuver it between the engine and the radiator bringing it up. This is why i needed to remove the lower radiator hose, bolt for oil dip stick and the Turbo output hose. I spent way too much time trying to bring the pipe out thru the bottom, which didn't work for me. Then spent some more time trying to push it out under the Turbo towards the driver fender (using the area made by removing the battery box), this didn't work either.
