im new to the saab stuff as the car use to be my dads and he didn't want to mod it at all, also i have a 400 horsepower ford escort gt (t3/t4 57trim/63 a.r. megasquirted engine managment) U.S. spec model so im not just a dumb a## posting retarded ?'s . so here are my ?'s please bare with me as im new to the saab world and i have searched around just not up to date on the saab termonolagy.

i have a 1988 saab 9000 turbo 5 speed , the motor is in great condition except a bouncy idel.
im going to make a 3ich downpipe and 2.5 exhaust after that and add a open air filter to a colder area.
how much hp'z will i recive from that?
im looking to make only 200 hp'z with this car (lead me in the right direction).

will i need to mod the APC, for the mods above to function properlly?
and will a 3.0 FPR be needed?

also how much boost can i run safelly with the stock turbo.

also has anyone ever ported the wastegate, is ther room for porting / is the flapper door bigger than the opening on the stock turbo?

also how much hp'z can the stock turbo support ( just to know)?

the car will be my daily driver(my problem is that i love Horsepower) .
thanks ryan

i was told i could run 14psi with 93 on a stock turbo...with the exhaust you should be able to gain atleast another 1 psi so id say your at 200 horsepower right there.

If your good with piping and welding, id suggest making some hardpipes for it and a new intercooler...that should add another 1 psi hopefully.

Hello.

I assume that you have Garrett t03 in your car. It is able to go to 250-270hp but when you go over 250hp with original turbo exhaust pressure will be quite a massive. That 3" downpipe will help a bit. I ran my former 9k with 1.5bar pressure and I had 3" JT, alucooler, extra injection for fuel, 4bar basic pressure for fuel, JR open air filter. Dyno showed 242hp and 340Nm with 0.85bar. I think you should modify apc just in case if you want some more power :). If you want more hp´z than 220 I recommend to buy 3.0 fpr or Malpassi/FSE/Megan adjustable fpr..last one has meter on itself...easy to tune ;).

Now I have same kind 9k but year older with Schwitzer s200 turbo (55/56mm wings, exhaust a/r 0.63. Also 3" exhaust, alucooler, [email protected] injectors, bigger boost pipes, K&N filter, i-model´s inlet camshaft (not good with as big turbo as I have now :( ), dump-valve with metal piston and something else I don´t remember right now. Coming up mods (allready waiting in garage :) )2.3 overbored block (2.5L), ported top, bigger clutch, and edis-4 for coming up Megasquirt project.

And yes..Saabism is a sickness and turbo-saabism is madness:cool:

do you have links to these parts you have , just to look at/geat a idea, so i can make my self.

also what about porting the wastegate?
also do people on these boards sell moded apc if i send them one, or is it really that easy to do?

been busy building front and rear upper strut tower bars for the escort gt.
also today my headlights on the saab started flickering between lows and highs, it had happend to my dad before but never came back untill today, so i will have to fix that first.
also im running a EDIS Megasquirt system on the escort gt. also i have everything you need for the edis stuff on my junk 91 escort pony 1.9.
thanks

Geez so much info.. so wrong.. Firstly using the OEM IC you will NOT far excced 200hp.. Kudos if you do though... you will be the first (No Dynajet HP readouts do NOT count)
The mods you are contemplating will give noticeable but not much more gains.
Raising Boost PSI is the easiest way.. untill you run into efficiency restrictions.
Basic and Generally TRUE rule of thumb sez : 5 hp per every additional PSI of boost.. 7 hp per each PSI of boost an an engine that was NA to begin with.. 400 Hp outta of an Escort Ztech engine seriously violates that Rule :)
Are yourunning 2.5 BAR ? if not.. yr delusional Mate.

last poster replyed =400 Hp outta of an Escort Ztech engine seriously violates that Rule
i don't like getting off the subject of saabs, and into stupids wars but,
what rule?????
are you doubting me?
first off the escort i have is a 91 escort gt(1.8 dohc), 2 years ago i swapped a gtx motor, ecu and harness(1.8 DOHC turbo low compression) into it with basic mods. then i got into big hp'z and it's got whats on it now, to much to list, o.k. so not 400 hp'z but last dyno was 378 and that was with the gtx ecu, with a safc2 for managment, now running a megasquirt standalone just not tuned yet .

i just stated that info(escort stuff) so people don't think im some retard that don't know anything about cars.
please lets not get into this, if im taking your ? in the wrong way im sorry. Just looking for some help from the saab folks
thanks

Please give some hard facts about that. 9k´s original cooler is not that bad. Many Nismo guys uses that older cooler with 90 degrees outputs as a tuning cooler. Also I used original cooler way more over than 200hp. It is guite a good if you are not going near 300hp. Plastic ends helds about 1.5bar pressure. The main problem in 9k is extreamly bad shaped downpipe and small exhaust side on stock turbo..they are like exhaust gas brakes there;).

I have purchased those parts mainly as used but JT is a Swedish mark and Speedparts is one place where you can buy those. There is a lot of other good stuff too.

I haven´t ported wg coz it is good enough in my current turbo. Earlier hybrid Garrett was ported from wg´s hole and it worked fine. There was an external wg from Audi S2 and pipe went straight out near gearbox.

Don´t know about selling boxes here, I am quite a new on this forum. But modifying is quite easy. You can find instructions from www.900aero.com

>>tech>>apc modifying and apc tuning

I have my apc just as a spectator with knocking light.

I have all other stuff ready except trigger wheel. I am not sure about using that original Ford part coz it seems to be quite weak. I have to ask some metal works to build stonger one or then I willl take crankshaft position somehow from original distributor..hall has 4 peak trigger, maybe I can modify it. Will see about that.

What I don't understand is why you have such a problem with that sort of power output from the engine. Just think, way back in 1985 Ford managed 700+ hp from a Cosworth 2.1BDT engine (Ford RS200 Evo), and 400hp from the standard 1.8BDT (RS200). It should be possible given that a lot of the technology from the Zetec engine came from cosworth and Yamaha (if I recall correctly).

And the really scary bit for the RS200 EVO with 700+ hp was that the brakes were not servo assisted.....
