Took the car into the dealer to see why 5th gear was jumping back into neutral. Diagnosis: internal transmission issue. Not too surprised based on what i've read but didn't expect the recommendation to be a brand new tranny at >$6000 (apparently working on them and fixing them is > than new one - again not too surprising) and the dealer not willing to cover under goodwill (especially since new 9-3's have 100k powertrain warranty). What well taken care of car should need a new transmission at 62K miles? Thoughts? Anyone run into this issue or did i get a lemon transmission? dump in a new one? Get a rebuilt one?
