I recently checked the fluid level on my five speed MT after the shop had done an axle seal swap early this year. As per the Haynes manual with the gearbox oil warm I removed the front wheel and (after levelling the car back out), cracked the check level plug ans saw the level was not up to the hole. Mystery is I've now added almost an extra litre of GM MTF fluid (via the check hole as per Haynes instructions) and its still not up to the hole! Was I really driving around with only half the 1.9 litres in my tranny? Gear shifts were fine!

Am I missing something? Have I got my volumes right? Do I need more fluid? I notice on some diagrams a fill hole at the top of the gearbox, should I be using that instead. I wouldn't of thought it would make a difference and in any case after driving the car I checked the level a second time and it still wasn't up to the hole and by that time surely the oil would have had a chance to distribute in the gearbox.

Any ideas anyone?
