Hello all,
Just wanted to write in to let everyone know that the 2007 9-3 I bought in August (built in may 07) has the same gas cap problem of older years. I started my car this morning and to my dismay the dreaded engine light icon popped up. Not knowing where to turn (my dealer is 50 miles away) I hit up the old google search and found this great site! So, after some searching, I found that the 03's and 04's had some issues with the gas cap loosening itself. I went out to the parking lot at work, opened the filling compartment grabbed the gas cap, and it wasnt screwed on at all. I know for a fact when I filled up 2 days ago that sucker was on tight. How the hell did this come loose on its own? Why hasnt SAAB/GM fixed this problem yet? Although i'm disappointed that the cap issue has not been resolved, a part of me is relieved that it was an easy fix (at least I assume thats what set off the light). So, again, this post is to inform you guys that the problem still persists. Anyone else with an 2007 have this problem yet?

Your info indicates you are in NJ, I guess you were not in NJ when you filled up 2 days ago otherwise you would not have been the one filling the car up.

You know nasty stuff that gas, needs specialised handling by highly trained fueling specialists in NJ.

Ah, so these boards come complete with a detective :D . You're 100% correct.
I filled up near my parents house in NY state. I'm from NY originally and never understood the whole state-wide full service rule. BTW, have you ever had this problem?

Yes, very highly trained, in fact I used to be a fuel technician back in highschool. Far too much excitement for me...

I think most of the training is now only available outside the country.

It's not unusual, but no.
