I am unable to program my my garage door opener to the assigned button on the rear view mirror. Yes, I have followed the directions in the owners manual.
What kind of garage door opener do you have, and how new is it? There are some code systems that are too new to work directly with Homelink, and require a converter box in the garage.
I've had problems with it too. It took a bunch of times to get it to work. I would try a fresh battery in the remote and turn the car off then on (a reboot).
