Recently, my '06 shifter has begun 'hanging' When attempting to shift, it will hang (usually in Neutral). If I shutoff the car and start it up again, the shifter will work again. Has only done this twice, but I don't want to get stuck somewhere....
.
Any suggestions? The release lever on the knob does feel kind of 'loose'....

Are you saying it flares between shifts (typically 2nd to 3rd) or are you saying in manual mode it doesn't want to shift after you push the lever up regardless of gear?

Crank the car. Move shifter from Park toward Drive and it will stop (hang). The shifter cannot be moved at this time (stopped in Neutral this morning). Turn car off and recrank car. Shifter can now be moved.

The shifter seems to act sluggish lately as well. By sluggish, I mean it feels like there may be some slack in the cable, but restarting the car would not (I think) resolve a cable problem.
.
Make more sense?
