OK, for 2005 in US there is no Onstar and no TEL2 (GSM) - so the phone button on the main console under the green screen - what does it do? Nothing?
Does it invoke TEL1?

Nada. Zip. Nothing.
Lovely....so what does the dealer tell you when you ask...."Hm ... what's the button for?"
Do you have "Phone" as an option in your green screen?

I would like to wire something so that some of the dead buttons, for example, the two on the steering wheel or the one on the dash marked " - " , are active.

It doesn't have to be a 007-type ejection seat or self destruct, possibly some light or other function. However, the electrical system seems too complicated with Tech 2. Gone are the days of just splicing wires and adding something.

It doesn't do anything, and in my manual it is labeled "unused" along with the other phone-related buttons on the steering wheel.

you really need to be carefull when toying with wires on this car, I've heard of people trying to re-wire the buttons on the steering wheel and they set off the air bag (VERY expensive to replace)
