I have a P1230 code on my 2002 9-5 Aero -- dead throttle body.

I opened up the electric motor side of the throttle body and all wiring insulation has crumbled to dust.

Tried calling BBA Remain. (I've seen that recommended on some of the forums.) BBA said they currently have no rebuilds for Saab because they don’t have a tech to work on it. They “hope to have a tech to work on them again in the new year.”

Anybody know of another rebuilder?

Oh wow, that's sad to hear. BBA reman is local to me, and they do good work. I'm not aware of anybody else, but they do have another facility in the UK I think... which one did you call? May be worth trying the UK.

I must have salvaged a couple of dozen throttle bodies from Saabs at the scrap yard, cleaned up and sold on eBay. Never had a complaint (which I admit isn’t absolute proof they were all good) but my point is that they don’t fail that often and a scrapyard example might be worth the risk.

There was only one version for the 2002 4 cylinder petrol engine, the part number ending in ‘186, so I’d certainly do that rather than buy a new one, if you can’t find a rebuilder.

I was about to rewrite my post saying the same thing. Try a yard nearby. It seems BBA quality has gone down the tubes looking at their reviews over the last couple of years.

I have a couple of what were working TB's sitting around, both without the limp home solenoid on them since I've broken a couple taking engines out and putting them back. If you want to send me enough to ship it to you I'll send you one.

PM me and I'll send you my email. you can pre-make a USPS medium flat rate box label and send it to me and I'll pack it in the box and ship it.

Thanks! I found a rebuilder that I'm going to give a try. I'll PM you if that doesn't work out. Much appreciated!

If you're curious, here's the rebuilder: Saab 9-5 Throttle Body
