Hi, after I put in 2002 93 interior door cars on both the front and back and also replaced the whole seat belt mechanism from the parts (2002) car on my 2001 the air bag light came on. Does anyone know how I can program the new seat belt mechanism to my 01 or is this not possible? Furthermore do I just need to maybe clear it with a tech 2 or an obd2 scanner? Any help is very helpful, thanks!

There's no programming needed. If you didn't disconnect the battery before doing the work, that will usually cause the airbag light to come on. Assuming there are no actual faults, the light will clear itself after a certain number of starts. If there is a fault, you'll need a Tech 2 to read the fault and clear the light.

I did disconnect the battery when I took them off and out them in because I was afraid they would fire off when I connected them. Do you know if this light completely disables all of the safety system also?

A Tech II will tell you what the exact error is. ODB scanner will likely do nothing.

The system may stay fully or partially operable, or inoperable, depending on the code(s). They are all explained in WIS. But to know what's going on, you need the code.

To add, I did get the airbag light doing a steering wheel/airbag swap on a 2004 (NG9-3). I had disconnected the battery, and plugged everything back in before connecting the battery. Well, after making sure the airbag connectors were REALLY secure, the light went away. So maybe just double-verify the seat-belt connector. You can compare the two to see if there were any changes in the number of pins, or possibly wire colour.

Yep, Tech II. Otherwise you're shooting in the dark. It will tell you the exact fault. You can then clear it. If it comes back, you have a physical problem. I'm suspicious of your seat belt as that's the only SRS component you changed and you DID disconnect the battery, but it's also possible you disturbed something. I'm assuming you remembered to hook up the little connector right on the seat belt(s) after install (not that I ever forgot one, nope!).

Like Jeremy said, it will eventually reset. Eventually. Assuming there are no faults and it was a transient issue. BUT, you could end up waiting a month and getting no joy if there's still a fault. Also, I tried a zillion starts/shut-offs and it didn't seem to help. I believe it's drive cycles needed to reset, not just start/off cycles

FYI - there is one possible shortcut for you: If the donor car had no SRS lights on, and if the part #'s match on the SRS units in the two cars, you can swap the donor SRS computer into the car with the light on. If there are no faults, the light will be off. It's a one shot chance because once it sets, you're back to needing a Tech II. So disconnect the battery, re-check your connections, then swap the SRS computers. You might be all set. If the light comes back on then there's a physical issue.

Ok thank you, sadly the donor car was an pick and pull car that is most likely long gone. But thanks for the info it was very helpful

So do I just make sure they are 100% connected and if they are then just wait?

Yes... but if there's still a fault, you might wait a month and still be waiting. I'm concerned that you did it correctly (battery disconnected) and still got a fault. That should not happen unless something isn't hooked up and/or something is defective.

Anyone near you who might have a Tech II? Have you checked the Tech II "who has one?" thread in Tech II forum?

What state are you in?

This may help it may not . I have an 04 9-3 I know it is different than yours but I had a similar situation happen to me. I took my seat out to vacuum under it and didn't realize that there is a tiny sensor on the right lower front of the seat near the track mechanism. It has 2 really small wires connected to it and when they got disconnected my air bag light came on. It took forever to figure out. Hope it works for you

I rebuilt the seat belts on our 9-3 and had the same problem upon reassembly. The only way I got the light to go off was by clearing the error with a Tech2.

Perhaps it may have reset itself but after a couple of weeks I ran out of time as I couldn't get a roadworthy certificate with the light on. I bit the bullet and bought a clone Tech2... it paid for itself within days.

This is exactly what I did I just forgot to update the forum. Cleared with a tech 2

Also where did you get your clone tech 2 and how much are the updates for them?

I got mine off eBay. Here in Australia I could get one with the GM card in it cheaper than others... so I got one of those and purchased a Saab card separately. Down under, GM cars were manufactured and sold under the Holden brand, so imported American GM brand cars are rare.

A quick search on eBay (Australia) shows you can still get them there. Just search for Tech 2 Scanner. Here they look to be going for around AU$500.

Given the age of the Saab software module, the idea of upgrading the software doesn't really apply as far as I am aware.

The airbag light indicates that something is wrong with the seatbelts or airbags. This means that it's probably not safe to drive with the airbag light on. If it stays illuminated in your vehicle, we recommend having it towed to the dealership rather than driving it yourself.
Sorry that I never updated this forum I had someone clear the code and it never came back on. And it's been driven a few thousand miles since. Thank you everyone for your tech 2 information it is very insightful and helpful. I will mostlikely buy one off Ali express or Ali baba since I assume it's the same thing and it's around 400. But all of this is very helpful.

Yeah mate... these days they are mostly all Chinese made clones of the original units. I had to return the first one that I had as the power supply failed the second time I used it. The next clone I bought has worked fine since. So my advice, test it soon and often when you get it... and hopefully yours will be right first up. 🤞
