I've read details on how to repair my failing SID by opening the unit and applying foam tape. To do this I must remove the unit first. There are some very detailed instructions out there, but they are missing the basic first step. Can anyone tell me how to initially remove the unit?

Take the radio out first, that's all. Cut the ends off a coat hanger and curve them into a U. Put them into the holes on each side of the radio. Push the hangars, pull the radio it should come right out allowing easy access to the SID.

Good luck!

I have also heard that running a warm iron over the back of the ribbon that connects to the SID can re establish the connections. I have never attempted it, nor do I have any problems with mine. When I bought my car, the guy was telling me about some method of doing it with a warm iron, but I don't remember the exact details.

Thanks for the advice. I tried removing the stereo once before with a universal stereo removal tool, but it never seemed to grab right. I'll give the coat hanger a try and post what happens.

Thanks for everyones' advice.
