After getting the grease off the timing cover it looks like there are little inserts or o-rings on the holes where the torx mounting screws go though, between the cover and the block. EPC doesn't show any, is it fair to assume these are just residual from the old permatex? A couple of them actually look more like inserts than o-rings.

It is just old sealant that squeezed into the space between the bolt and the hole. No O-Rings.
