I have a 94 900 Turbo Vert.

I'm trying to find a engine hood replacement, I kept being asked if it was a turbo and what the engine displacement was. (Either a 2.0L or 2.3L)

Now I found a site that has a hood and states the following which has me a little confused. I did order the hood since it works with both configurations below.

FITS (ENGINE/CHASSIS)
1989-1994 Saab 9000

  • 1989-1990: 2.0L, 4 Cylinder

  • 1990-1994: 2.3L, 4 Cylinder

Now, when I check the engine compartment mine has a 2.0L (Turbo model)according to the sticker on the left fender. Here it says that 1990-94 has a 2.3L and the earlier models 1989-1990 had the 2.0L. Nothing important unless I ever need a replacement engine part. I now have a whopping 70K miles on the car. Just wanted to know why the difference and I had seen posted that someone was putting a 2.3 head on a 2.0. (I Guess I read that right)

UPDATE: Uh, almost screwed up. The hood I was ordering is for a 9000 saab. Do the 900 and 9000's use the same?

Here is the link:

first off, i would ask people in the right forum... we are 900 nerds, you need to ask the 9000 noggins for specifics ;)

The 9000 bonnet won't fit your 'vert :) Only a 1979-1994 900 bonnet will fit. You might have trouble asking for a hood for a '94 as that's when the new 900 came out, so just ask for an -'93 hood, they're the same.

Yes I know, it is a PIA trying to buy something for the bugger. I keep telling ppl I need it for a 93 instead of a 94 and when I give them the VIN they try and sell me the 94 stuff. I wish I would have bought a 90-93 instead. But I will try and work around these problems. Maybe someday it will be a collectors item. Hey, I think it already is! :D

Oh, just a side note, the classic 900 never had a 2.3 fitted, only a 2.0 and 2.1 :) So if you see a 2.3 option, you know you're in the wrong place :)

No!!! Your '94 adheres to the long-standing tradition in Saab of confusing everyone. Now, you can say that not only is the engine back-to-front, that reverse lights appear in the FRONT of the car, that the engine is longitudinally mounted but driving the front wheels, but the '94 model is actually a '93!!!!

Since you are in FL, just to let you know there is a golden 92 900s in the local (to me) junkyard.
Where oh where oh where? I will be going to Ft Lauderdale from JAX next weekend. I could bring the Truck or change the hood on the fly. :)

jameschong - Right on! LOL!!!
