Hey guys, I'm back after 2 years of selling the NG900.

I recently acquired a 1999 9-5 2.3 LPT 5 Speed
The car has 124,000 kms. This car never had any recalls done with the PCV system or flushing of any sort.

I am eager to get this done. My question is, is it safe to drop the pan, do the cleaning and flush, without the update kit put on? Reason why I ask is my update kit may not be here until the end of this week or early next. I am scheduled to do my flush/clean up tomorrow night.

advice would be great! thanks.

ok great, I can't wait to get this baby flushed out and cleaned. When I picked it up, the oil is blacker than BLACK!!! I was sooo disappointed!

Anything else I should tackle while I am in there?

If you can, pick up a new o-ring for the oil p/u inside the sump before you get in there. I just dropped my sump but didn't have the o-ring. It was getting loose in there and this could affect the suction of the pick up.

thanks for the info... I hope I can locate one at a general parts store... cuz everything for my saab I have to order from online. The nearest Saab dealer is about 1200kms away. Yup thats right.. 1,200kms.

1,200km... yikes. I haven't needed the dealer (yet) since I bought mine, but the thought of that is scary.

You should be able to find the right o-ring at an auto parts store. The Saab part is this:

You may be able to call them and ask them for the size. Or just pick one up once you get it out.

Is that a charcoal/dark purple NG900? It looks exactly like the one I had before the 9-5. 330,000 Km and a perfect engine, until the body started giving out. Damn you salt!!

Seriously congrats on the 5 Speed 9-5 acquisition, you'll love it. There's so much more space and luxury.

Take some before and after pics of the sump, I'm curious to see a 120,000+ Km sump without any upgrades to the PCV.

Hi Mike. yes that was my dark purple ( aubergine metallic) NG900. I loved that car, it had 315,000kms.. SQR Stage IV w/ TD04 approx 300HP. I never touched that engine other than a head gasket replacement before I went SQR IV.

I am pumped for this 9-5. I will definitly take pics before and after, even crank pics I will take, I should have these posted tomorrow evening.

Hey guys, well I must say, I was pretty impressed. The job was not hard at all. 3 hours approx, and that included an engine flush, and another oil change.

The sump was not dirty at all. no sludge, cleaned up very quickly, the pickup screen had no debris. was very happy with the outcome!

here's to a good long life. Glad I bought this car and not back out of a deal.

Mike I don't think thats gonna be an issue at all. As long as everything else stays in check, She should be able to go well beyond that. The setup is just so simialr engine wise. Can't speak for the T7 though, its my first T7 car. But clutch setup is way better than my NG900, since it was all cable. Now if I can just figure out my overboost (fuel cut) problem, I'll be all set.

Shaft, did you end up replacing the o-ring? If you did, would you mind sharing what size it is? I should probably do this before doing a stage 1...

My car is at 163,000 miles. Should be breaking 300,000 km in about two years. Previous owner racked up the miles.

zef95, do you know what intervals the oil was changed and with what kind of oil?

I just did another oil change (500 kms since last), thats 2 oil changes with synthetic after my initial flush on thursday. I'm using 5W50 Mobil 1. Oil is now finally a honey color and I couldn't be more than happy with the outcome.

My PCV Update kit is here, i'll probably tackle it next week sometime. I am in no rush as everything seems to be A1.

My plan is to do oil changes every 5000 kms with synthetic. At $22.00 for 5 litres (walmart), and $5.00 for an oil filter(walmart "Fram"), I can't complain.

I have little idea what the first 139k miles were like. It was dealer repaired (IRIS report shows DIC, turbo, misc bulbs, etc) but not regularly serviced at the dealer for oil changes. Since 139k miles, I've been using Mobil 1 0W40 every 4-6k miles, and it seems great. The 6k change felt a little long. The oil was darker than usual, but I have no other way of telling. I have no lifter ticking noise, and zero oil consumption. Since then I've been tracking fillup, oil changes, here:

It'll be interesting to see what I find in the oil pan. I just wish it were warmer outside.

Word on the interwebs is that Fram is not as good as the other brands of filter. I use this thread to see where M1 is the cheapest, and get the premium M1 filter with it. I just picked 5 qts 0W40 + the filter up for $28.

Zef I can't get M1 0W40 here. Special order and I'd have to sell my leg to get 5 qrts! lol.

I'm gonna order a case of 10 filters from eeuro on my next order.

if after 6k miles and ur oil is not that black, I don't think u got a sludgin issue, your using synthetic as it is. my bet is your pan is gonna look like mine.

Go find an Esso bulk dealer and see what you'd have to pay for Esso XD3 Synthetic 0W-40. Top top quality synthetic diesel oil that will work just fine in any 4 cyl 9-5.

For filters, lots of choice. I like the larger PT Cruiser Turbo filters - Motorcraft FL400 or Napa Gold 1516 are both quality choices you can find locally. Purolator and Wix both make good filters.
