Greetings,

I have the stock stero in my 1999 9-3 and when I am playing CD's for about 2-3 hours the CD player becomes extremely hot and creates the ERROR 2. When I eject the CD it is hot to the touch and I must resort to the stereo; not so fun with the top down.

Am I the only one with this problem and is there a fix or should I just have the CD replaced. Also, if I do have the CD replaced will it effect my SID?

I'm not sure about your specific problem, but if you replace with a factory cd player it will work with the SID with the proper procedures. If you decide to go aftermarket, the SID functions not related to the radio/stereo will still work like the clock and temp and all that.

If it's a burned cd, it will overheat. The manual states burned cds will cause the stereo to overheat.

I've never had a problem with it overheating with a store-bought cd, but it does get hot. I does overheat and sound kind of scratchy with a CD-R though.

I hate to bring this thread back but the cd player in my 9-3 gets scalding hot after about 15 minutes. Playing burnt cds and store bought cds. It also gets picky when going back multiple tracks and forwards doing the same thing, it just stops and I get the "ERROR 02".

I'm ready to put an aftermarket head unit in there, but have no clue where to start.

I've been using "burned" cds since ive had the car, the problem with the cd player is that it needs to be cleaned and the wires can get loose, i would try to jiggle the wires first.

Does anyone still purchase physical CDs anymore? Purchasing music through itunes is so much easier, and for those like me who haven't had time to wire up the aux-in line for their ipod, burned is the only way to go for the car. (I can't deal with the quality degradation of a FM trasmitter)

Although it hasn't been a problem on this car, on previous cars I've found that using the lightest-colored CD-Rs can help a lot with CD players that dont like to cooperate with burned CDs. Try to find some with a near-silver recording surface and this may help.
