My car is idling pretty rough. It seems to be running really rich what are some things that would cause this? It's my learning car and was neglected and missing parts when I got it...almost have it running well enough to pass smog...but not quite yet...

Is the Check Engine light on? If so, what are the codes?

Does the temperature gauge get up to the 9 o'clock position?

Does it run fine on the road?

It could be MAF, it could be O2 sensor, it could be a bad injector, it could be somewhere in the ignition system--impossible to tell from just that description.

There's also a temperature sensor on the intake manifold that helps to control the fuel mixture. At least I think it's there on the non-turbo models. Mine's had that sensor go out twice, and both times it's caused the car to run so rich it could barely idle.
