I know this engine is fitted to fiats and Vauxhall/Opel cars are Saabs affected by the flywheel/clutch/transmission problems like the rest of GM

Yes, Saab, Opel, Vauxhall use this; Saab uses a 2.2; and I think this is made by VM Motori ??
The "troubles" I know not of..

1.9 l engine was introduced in 2002, in new 9-3, so you're in wrong section of the forum . And it's made (or designed) by Fiat.

Untill 02, Saab used 2.2 l engine, made by Isuzu.
